Matthew Rigsby was preparing to attend college and fulfill his dream of a career in criminal justice when just a few months after graduating from high school he was in an auto accident and sustained a spinal cord injury leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. His mother, Sandra Beazley, a single-parent on a limited income, had to quit work to stay home as his caregiver. Needless to say, the physical and emotional trauma of this life-altering event is compounded by the financial hardships they face. At this time they are dependent on what Medicare and SSI provides for Matthew.
Eventually, Matthew hopes to adapt to his situation utilizing technology to continue to follow his dream of an education and career. In the meantime, Sandra would like to find work she can do from home while caring for Matthew so she can resume having an income and health insurance.
